Royal Question Mark of the Day: May 26

It's just........huh? I have so many questions. SO MANY.
The Prince and Princess of Monaco attended
the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix yesterday.
What even is this? Why does the skirt have a knee vent? Did it want to be a jumpsuit but chickened out halfway through? Why are there tabs at the top? Is this a paper doll jumpsuit pasted on a three dimensional human? I mean, this shape seems clearly not meant for a world with this many dimensions.
There's just nothing about this that isn't a giant question mark. Unless she was trying to win the prize for the year's most unflattering outfit, in which case I think we can call this a winner.

Even the Dior earrings bring the question marks. A top-to-bottom achievement in huh?, I'd say.

But I won't leave you like that. I offer you this palette cleanser:
Charlotte Casiraghi at this year's Cannes Film Festival, in Gucci.
Theeeerrre we go. All better.

Somebody got their hair done for their birthday...
The Countess of Wessex was out and about, looking fab, on her 50th birthday yesterday. There was cake! I'd show up for any royal engagement if dessert was a guarantee. And she sported a hairdo which was simple from the front and anything but from the back:
That's a lotta stuff going on there. But I'm all in favor of daytime updos any which way, you know me. The 'do crowned an outfit of simple pieces that came together pretty harmoniously: a Prada coat, a pink Gucci dress underneath, a burgundy Sophie Habsburg Design clutch, and black L.K. Bennett boots (per the Countess of Wessex Blog).
Sophie's obviously been making great strides in her style in the past few years, and this is the kind of simple but chic outfit that comes from having a wardrobe filled with higher quality individual pieces. As I tweeted the other day, the Wessex family's chef has apparently been appointed Sophie's new personal dresser - an unusual move, but if he keeps her moving on this path, more power to him.

Stay tuned, we may just have another Sophie fashion feature before we're done marking her big birthday.

Year in Review: 2014's Honorable Mentions

We've reached the end of our year in review series! We've covered the events, the tiaras, and the best outfits from each of our most frequently featured royal women. But our regular players aren't the only ones churning out great appearances, of course, and so today belongs to the other outfits worn this year that you just can't forget. A few of my favorite 2014 things...

Charlotte Casiraghi
Charlotte Casiraghi's partnership with Gucci is paying off in the sartorial stakes. This Gucci dress was sleek in all the right ways, with just a hint of metallic to set things off.

I'm a sucker for a good windowpane print and this Dior hits the spot. Add in a full skirt, and I'm well and truly done for - yes, the couture queen (couture sheikha) struck again this year.

Princess Beatrice
This one has all my favorites: bringing another designer into the royal mix (Nicholas Oakwell), a little full skirt, white, and colorful accessories (purple shoes, hello!). A winner all around for Beatrice.

Princess Haya
Someone has to bring the Eliza Doolittle flavor to Ascot each year. I'm pretty sure it's written right in the rules. And Haya did so in major fashion this year, instantly winning a spot on my best of the year list.

Hey, I did warn you about my love affair with the color white. I could go on, but we'll cap it there and turn it over to you:

What other sartorial moments will you remember from 2014?

Royal Outfit of the Day: November 3

So, this looks like wallpaper:
Charlotte Casiraghi attended the 2014 LACMA Art + Film Gala.
But, like, really excellent wallpaper. Like the kind that costs insane amounts of money, the kind that is art, the kind that needs to be on my walls right now.
But I'll settle for the dress form, that would work too.
It's Gucci, from the Spring 2015 RTW collection, originally seen on the runway in short form. I'm not completely sold on the trim, but it's sparkly, and that'll do. That gorgeous embroidery is going to steal my attention anyway. Sold.

Royal Outfit of the Day: July 14

Make that Princely...er...Casiraghi Outfit of the Day, I suppose.
Charlotte Casiraghi attended the Vogue Foundation Gala in Paris last week.
Well, I do believe Ms. Casiraghi has found the absolute perfect gown to match her nonchalant couture-wearing image - a gown every bit as sleek and cool as she seems to be. Absolutely perfect, no?
Charlotte's gown is from Gucci Resort 2015. She has a long-standing relationship with the label; Gucci designs her equestrian wear and she is the face of Gucci Cosmetics.
