Marquee weddings

Today we are going to start to look at the different types of venues for your wedding breakfast. There are many styles from country house, castle, hotel, barn, marquee, village hall as examples. Today we are focusing on marquees - whether a permanent marquee at your venue or a temporary one you have had erected in a field or garden. The insides and styles are again very varied today with traditional styles or tipi like designs many of these designs will work with any.
Most marquees will have areas of high ceilings and are a cavan to fill. Tall centrepieces work well, drawing your eye up and through the marquee, adding WOW factor once you are inside.
These tall conical vases filled simply with pink lily and tall twisted willow are an excellent use of space and colour, lifting the black tables and matching the bows and runners.

We teamed these with low cube designs for the outer tables, where the ceiling is much lower and in the quiet area on the coffee tables. Keeping the same flowers/foliage lets the theme run but different designs add interest to your tables.

Add a pop of colour in a low design to a dark table will work too. The contrast adds the interest and shows up through the marquee

Natural and country style designs always work well in marquees as their very nature means the setting is usually pretty green. How about these gorgeous wooden bases with log upright for hanging the table numbers on filled with jars of a mixed selection of flowers? Add in a candle or two for later on in the evening.

The best way to fill the large ceiling space is to hang decorations. Hoops, ladders and rails are all popular but we love these hanging birdcages. They were hung over half of the guest tables and looked amazing

An easier way to have tall designs is our large 70 cm martini vases filled with summer gorgeousness. These certainly look the part and the WOW when you walked in was amazing!

Teamed with low fish bowls for the other half of tables and for the top table keeps the colour running through the whole marquee.

Want to keep to a white and cream theme? Add tall lily vases oaf oriental lilies and steel grass. This creates a classic look and the scent was divine.

Start as you mean to go on...add WOW to your doorway... A gorgeous archway filled with lots of country foliage, roses and gyp.

Keeping the country theme - small zinc watering cans filled with summer sunflowers, gyp, foliage and twigs. Stand on wood slices and add in small tea light lanterns.

If the marquee has space out side, create a buzz for your guests with signage  and a peak into what's in store for the reception. Large watering cans filled with sunflowers and country yellow flowers surrounded by logs and lanterns.

Add another design to the entrance to the marquee to lead the way

and don't forget the entrance/exit to the marquee. If a fine day many people will be milling in and out, keep it simple but effective.

More tall designs of our martini vases

and a top table set up to mirror the flowers already installed in the permanent marquee.

Don't want the traditional long and low design? Is there lots of room between top table and the guest tables? If so these garlands are a great addition, adding colour and interest to what otherwise would be a plain space but keeping the table free for the meal ahead.

Tall candlesticks are an alternative to vases, The balls can be made as large (or small) as required.

Saxby All Saints Hall

The wedding breakfast of G and J was held at Saxby All Saints Hall. A place we had not visited before, but what a beautiful setting. A marquee was erected on the front lawn for the celebrations and we had been asked to provide decorations both inside and outside to lead the way.

(To see the bridal party flowers for this wedding click here and to see the church flowers click here)

From the carpark we placed oak logs and a branch or two with lanterns, fork and wedding sign. Alongside these were two oversized watering cans filled with sunflowers, sol, gyp and chrysants.

At the entrance to the marquee we had more logs and lanterns, both candle and fairy lights, with two old crates and LOVE sign and to top it all off a baby watering can filled with flowers. Sunflowers were dotted around the displays to add a splash of colour.

The crates and watering can display

On the inside of the marquee entrance we placed more logs and lanterns, candle and fairy lights, to mark the entrance when it got dark.

The top table was decorated with up turned glasses, wine, cocktail, martini and sundae, each with a candle on top and small sunflower underneath. We also placed sprigs of gyp between the glasses and each glass had yellow ribbon attached.

At each end of the top table we had yet more logs, rustic large and small lanterns with sunflower head, gyp and corn decoration.

The guest tables were small zinc watering cans filled with sunflowers, yellow sunny santini chrysants gyp and twigs. These were placed on log slices and either had small butterfly lanterns or tea lights.

(The tables were still being set by the catering staff)

These make excellent displays for a country style wedding and also add a splash of colour in a marquee.
