Find your perfect venue

Find your perfect venue

You’ve found your groom. You’ve bought the perfect dress. You’re expecting a fairytale wedding. Now all you need is the best wedding venue. Having a perfect wedding relies largely on the venue. That’s why you should treat finding a wedding venue as if you are having a High Mountain Wedding. It's where you will treat your friends and relatives to the most memorable night of your life. Here are some tips to help you search for the best wedding venue:

As soon as you arrive at a venue you will automatically have a certain feeling towards it. Trust your instincts. If you feel a certain vibe when you are at the venue then that’s a good start. You will know automatically if a certain venue is not right for you and your wedding. This doesn’t mean that you should not use logic when choosing a wedding venue. It’s the place where you will exchange vows with the man you love so it has to feel right.

A wedding is a very important event so take your time when choosing the venue. You should start looking for a venue at least a year before the wedding date. This will give you plenty of time to make the right decisions and change the venue in case something comes up. You can also try on some online wedding information about venues. You find an indoor type or maybe as grand as Tahoe Beach Wedding. If you give yourself enough time, then you can make the right choice.

The size of the venue is a very important consideration. If the venue is too large, the wedding will loose its intimacy. If it’s too small, it will be cramped and uncomfortable. Of course, the size of your venue depends on the number of your guests. So before looking for a venue you should at least have a rough idea of how many guests you will be inviting. Be as precise as possible. Try to keep the range no higher than 50 people. If you say you are planning for between 150 and 400 guests, expect a disaster.

Don't forget the dance floor. This is where mistakes are made. If you are dealing with 300 guests, than a 10 by 10 dance floor won't do. The more guests you have, the larger the dance floor will need to be.

One of the complaints people have when attending a wedding is the lack of parking spaces. Be sure that the wedding venue you choose has enough parking spaces for all your guests. Parking may be a minor consideration, it becomes a major problem when there isn't enough.

Be sure to ask about the restrictions of the venue, if there are any. Some venues have time restrictions while others will let you party all night long. There are venues with decorations restrictions. There may even be restrictions about noise so you might not be able to hire a band or bring in a sound system. Check if the wedding venue will allow you to bring your own caterer, florist, decorator, etc.

Have a layout of your wedding. Before choosing a wedding venue, you need a drawn out plan. You need to know where you want guests to sit, where you want the reception area, the dining area, etc. Then see if the venue fits your layout.

Remember, with a well thought out plan, plenty on time, and a little research, finding the best wedding venue can be a piece of cake. Without these components, a nightmare. The choice is easy

Wedding Trends for 2017

1. Say Yes to Greenery
Look, we love flowers just as much as the next girl. Peonies, hydrangeas, ranunculus, all to die for. However, there’s something to be said about an all green wedding. Not only is it more cost effective, but it adds a more earthy, simplistic, elegant feel to the ceremony and reception. Consider adding a garland down your aisles or table. Spice it up with some intermittent candles or even some flowers (see above – we couldn’t help ourselves).

2. All White Wedding Trends with a Pop
All white weddings started to become popular in 2016. However, 2017 is bound to take it one step further by adding in a signature color or pattern to liven up the mood. Be ready for more gorgeous and unique mix-matched all-white bridesmaids dresses. Keep an eye out for more lip color, colored florals, greenery (see number 1), marble patterns, and the like. 2017 brides are about to make the classic theme more specialized and individualized and we can’t wait to see what happens!

3. Splitting the Bill
For decades, the bride’s family footing the entire bill has been a tradition. We think the message of 2017 will be equality. No longer will that expense be solely on the bride’s family, the groom’s family will begin chipping into the budget as well!

4. Splashes of Watercolor
Watercolor has become more of a trend lately, outside of just weddings. It’s about time they get more incorporated into these special moments! We are expecting to see this wedding trend on wedding invitations, cakes, menus, and programs.

5. Metallic Vintage Glam
Vintage Glam and metallic touches were both big touches and wedding trends in 2016. In 2017 we see a slight shift happening. Instead of the typical silvers and golds, they’re being replaced by rose golds, champagnes, and bronzes that will be understated and glamorous additions to the weddings.

Some Winter Ideas

If you're considering getting married in the winter months, these wedding ideas for January nuptials might spark your imagination to create the perfect day.

Winter Weddings: Advantages
Although spring and early summer are more popular times for weddings, there are many advantages to a winter wedding, especially in January. Since that month is after the winter holidays, and before what is considered the rush of the bridal "season," you may find the venue of your choice more available and have your pick of dates and times. You also have a wonderful variety of themes to choose from that work well with a wedding taking place in this month, no matter what climate you are in.

January Wedding Themes
Many weddings today start with a theme to plan around. For January and winter weddings, theme ideas might include:
  • Blizzard or winter weather
  • Winter wonderland
  • Snowflakes/ and or Icicle theme
  • "Alaskan" or "Arctic" theme
  • A fun "summer" theme that might contrast with the cold or blustery weather
  • Whimsical penguins, polar bears, or other animals that live in cold climates
  • A New Year's/New Beginnings theme
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Snow White
  • A "Golden" wedding - gold was first discovered in California in January in 1848
  • Formal wedding themes
Your invitations, cake, favors, and décor can all be coordinated with the theme you've chosen.

January Wedding Colors
A January wedding works well with many colors. Any shade of blue, silver, and white are gorgeous choices for a winter wedding in this month. Although pastel shades are largely reserved for spring weddings, several pastel shades, such as ice blue or baby blue, lavender, or dusty rose are perfect "icy" options. Rich, deep, elegant colors such as the following also work well for a January or winter wedding:

  • Navy
  • Midnight Blue
  • Plum
  • Burgundy
  • Garnet
  • Emerald
  • Hunter Green
  • Gold
  • Deep Aqua/Turquoise

10 New Winter Wedding Ideas

Snowflakes and pine cones are tried-and-true winter wedding motifs, but don't feel bound to these seasonal standbys. Here are 10 ways to reinvent your winter wedding.

Wedding Colors
Reds and greens certainly reflect the season, but overdo this color combo, and your wedding may seem more holiday-oriented than you intended.

What's Hot Now: Consider a less-is-more approach to your color palette: Silver and white with crystal accents can add some serious glamour to your winter wedding. For your ceremony, try a white velvet aisle runner trimmed with white satin ribbon, or decorate the altar with a crystal curtain backdrop adorned with hanging strands of elegant white phalaenopsis orchids. If you're exchanging vows outdoors, get your guests in on creating the ambience by giving out clear umbrellas to friends and family members as they arrive.

The Flowers
Red roses, calla lilies, and amaryllis are decidedly winter wedding flowers, but if you step outside the flower box, and you'll find a variety of options for winter blooms.

What's Hot Now: Consider fuller flowers, such as white hydrangeas and soft ranunculuses. White boutonnieres can be handsome when they're accented with greenery, but they also look great with a simple white ribbon. Add sparkle to your bouquet by wrapping the stems in ribbon embellished with crystals.
Invitations

Since winter weddings are usually held indoors (it's an ideal time for ballroom receptions), they often call for a more formal invitations.

What's Hot Now: A black-tie event is nicely conveyed by heavy cardstock and a navy blue, chocolate-brown, or even eggplant font with hand calligraphy. For a fresh way to achieve a formal tone for your winter wedding, use thick, frosted Plexiglas invitations in white scripted ink. Send the sturdy invites out to all your guests tucked into silver envelope liners.
Centerpieces

Go beyond glowing candles to add both warmth and romance to your reception site.

What's Hot Now: If you want to heighten the drama, bring in the icy outdoors with ice-carved vases on your reception tables. Have your florist fill the vases with tall winter-white branches and hanging crystals to reflect the light from the tables. Surround the centerpieces with votive candles, and top your tables with white dupioni table linens and frosted glass china.
Escort Cards

Miniature sleighs and holly motifs stamped onto your escort cards would spell out the season pretty clearly, but they might not dazzle your guests.

What's Hot Now: Leave everyone awestruck as they retrieve their escort cards by making the entire table sparkle. Have the cards hand-calligraphed in silver ink and attach them to individual crystals with a ribbon. Hang each from an oversized crystal candelabra centerpiece for a new take on the popular escort card tree.

The Music
A classical pianist playing during dinner is a sure way to create an elegant ambience, but consider a more unexpected accompaniment.

What's Hot Now: For a twist on the tunes, consider hiring an a capella quartet to sing background music at your reception. Have the group sing your favorite jazz and pop songs to set a welcoming and festive tone for the evening. If you're into a more classical sound, hire a cellist and ask that Vivaldi's "Winter" be included in the repertoire.

Cocktail Hour
A winter cocktail hour calls for warm, comforting drinks. You really can't go wrong with hot chocolate and warm apple cider, but it's your wedding -- why not take every opportunity (drinks included) to add an element of surprise?

What's Hot Now: Serve up white hot chocolate in small espresso cups and eggnog in small punch glasses for your guests as they arrive. At the bar, offer saketinis (Japanese rice wine and sweet-flavored vodka) in glasses rimmed with sugar crystals.

The Cake
A wedding cake trimmed in red or green ribbon or topped with roses looks pretty, but bakers who are willing to push the fondant envelope can reflect the winter in totally creative ways.

What's Hot Now: Play up the season with a white, vintage-style cake, dusted with edible silver powder. For accents, have your baker add a white sugar ribbon and crystal drops cascading down one side of the cake.

Favors
Food wedding favors are always a hit, but if cookies or truffles seem passe, try new treat ideas to send your guests home satisfied.

What's Hot Now: Give out small packages of chocolate-covered cranberries or roasted chestnuts. An over-the-top idea that will undoubtedly impress: Have your caterer set up a hot chocolate and churros station to top off the evening.

Honeymoons
While many couples flee the blustery weather for warmer (and sandier) locales for their honeymoon, a winter wedding can segue perfectly into a snowy escape.
