Alstroemeria - Flower of the month February

The Alstroemeria is in the Flower Agenda in February

In February we celebrate love. Love of your partner, but also love your friends and family. With its symbolism, alstroemeria is the perfect candidate for marking friendships. Consumers can read all about this versatile beauty at Funnyhowflowersdothat.co.uk
The alstroemeria’s origin
The exotic alstroemeria is also called the Inca Lily. This is a reference to its natural habitat: the cool mountain ranges of the Andes in Chile, Brazil and Peru. The flower was discovered there in the 18th century by the Swedish scientist Clas Alströmer. It was he who gave the flower its current name.
The alstroemeria’s colours and shapes
The alstroemeria hides somewhat shyly in its buds in the shop. But gosh, what a surprise when those buds open in your home. Then you will see six to eight flowers on the stem, with a flaming interior of white, yellow, red, orange, purple or pink which you can really enjoy. Particularly since these flowers have a very long vase life.
Caring for alstroemerias
If you want to enjoy your alstroemerias for a long time, follow these tips:
•    Trim the stems diagonally and remove the bottom leaves so they don’t dangle in the water.
•    Arrange the alstroemerias in a clean vase with fresh water and some cut flower food.
•    Avoid placing the vase in full sun, near a fruit bowl or near the central heating.
•    Remove wilted flowers and regularly top the vase up with tap water.
Symbolism of the alstroemeria
The alstroemeria symbolises enduring friendship. It’s therefore the perfect gift to confirm a beautiful friendship. All six of the alstroemeria’s petals are very important: they stand for understanding, humour, patience, empathy, commitment and respect. You can decide for yourself which petal represents which quality.
More about the Alstroemeria
Consumers can also find more information at Funnyhowflowersdothat.co.uk about how to celebrate friendships with a bouquet full of alstroemerias, there’s a remarkable alstroemeria petal DIY project in prospect, and we show three ways of displaying alstroemeria in a vase.
If you are looking for flowers for your wedding these make excellent additions to any display and come in such an array of colours there will be something for any colour scheme.
Create fun posies for your bridesmaids

Or add a splash of colour to your tables with single stem displays and pretty vases

Or group together for a vivid style.
Whether for your wedding, for your home or for a gift, alstroemeria is a long lasting hardy flower and we use them a lot in our displays

They are available all year so whatever the season we will have them in stock.
Ask us how we can incorporate them into your designs today.

Blush Pink, Magenta & Deep Plum Shades for Hazel & Kevin's Magnificent Wedding at All Hallows Church Great Mitton & Mitton Hall

Just love this Mood Board, provided by the super lovely Hazel & Kevin, it included so many beautiful details that inspired our designs and helped us to understand their taste and their hopes and dreams for a perfect February wedding day. Hazel & Kevin had chosen to get married at the historic Church of All Hallows in Great Mitton before heading just down the lane to Mitton Hall for their celebrations, both beautiful countryside venues to dress with fresh flowers.
~
We had the huge pleasure of working alongside some fabulous wedding professionals Sonara Parker mua, Mairead from Wedlocks Bridal Hair and the lovely folks from Slice of Pie Photography and of course Lesley Anne and the team from Mitton Hall.
At Hazel & Kevin's sample appointment we created a beautiful wedding bouquet, Boutonnieres, table designs and seating plan for them to see.
A Gold Byzantine Candelabra dressed with Roses, Astrantia, Skimmia and dark burgundy Hydrangeas (It was decided to leave out the white Hydrangeas for the wedding day version)
One of our Enchanted Trees, a suggestion to use as a seating plan but to have less foliage on it for the big day.
In the sample wedding Bouquet we'd included some deep shaded 'Captain Romance', Astrantia 'Roma', Hellebores, Black Baccara, Sweet Avalanche, Amalia & Kate Roses, Ranuculus, Skimmia with French Ruscus.
A sample Boutonniere created for Kevin to see
A Boutonniere incorporating a Captain Romance Calla Lily, a burgundy Ranunculus, Astrantia and Rolled Rose Petals
On the big day Jason was at Mitton Hall bright and early to present the Bridal bouquets
In the actual wedding bouquet I had included a twist or two of contorted Hazel our Bride's name sake along with some fresh Jasmine that wasn't in the sample wedding bouquet as the season hadn't started then alongside the 'Captain Romance', Astrantia 'Roma', Hellebores, Black Baccara, Sweet Avalanche, Amalia & Kate Roses, Ranuculus, Skimmia with French Ruscus.

Jason headed off to All Hallow's Church to set up our flowers ready for the ceremony
One of our fresh floral hearts dressed the entrance along with some of our Lanterns which created a warm welcome for the guests as they arrived
Inside this beautiful old Church we'd decorated the Pew Ends with posies of fresh flowers and two of our candelabras framed the ceremony space at the head of the aisle

Our Byzantine Candelabras looked lovely dressed with Roses, Orchids, Black Pearl Germini and Ranuculus
Our Floral Heart was created from a collection of Orchids, Calla Lilies, Roses, Ranunculus, Lissianthus and fresh fragrant foliages

Jason lined up the Boutonnieres and corsages ready to pin them on the Groom and his party as they arrived at Church

The Bride Groom Kevin's Boutonniere featured a piece of Hazel and some Forget Me Nots along with fresh Kate Rose, Ranunculus, Skimmia, Astrantia Rosa and Rolled Petals, we'd bound the stem with gold bullion and attached a Mickey Mouse Pin
The Page Boy Nathan's Boutonniere was a miniature version of the Groom's Boutonniere and also included fresh Forget Me Nots, Rolled Roses Petals, Ranunculus, Astrantia and a 'Woody' pin
The very first to have his rather special boutonniere pinned on was Hazel's super handsome Bride Groom Kevin
The Bride Groom's seriously special Boutonniere incorporated some Hazel, Forget Me Nots, Roses and Ranunuculus
  The beautiful Groom's Mum Sharon
Sharon's corsage included Blue Muscari, Hellebores, Forget me Nots, navy blue Steel berries and Eryngium

There were three Best Men all had unique Boutonnieres pinned to their lapels

The super glam Bride's Mum Julie
Julie's Corsage of Rolled Red Rose Petals, Blue Thistles and Berries and some Hellebores

The Bridesmaids and Bride's Mum looked beautiful

The Bridesmaid's Bouquets were created as smaller versions of the Bridal Bouquet, the soft pink of the Sweet Avalanche Roses and Hellebores complimented their gowns perfectly
The super cool Page Boy Nathan with his special 'Woody' Boutonniere
The Page Boy's Boutonniere was a miniature version of the Groom's Boutonniere

The stunning Bride Hazel with her super proud dad
Our beautiful Bride the gorgeous Hazel looked breathtakingly beautiful
The wedding bouquets looked so perfect for this time of the year,  I included some fresh cut Hazel our Bride's name sake along with some fresh Jasmine that wasn't in the sample wedding bouquet as the season hadn't started then alongside the 'Captain Romance', Lissianthus, Astrantia 'Roma', Hellebores, Black Baccara, Sweet Avalanche, Amalia & Kate Roses, Ranuculus, Skimmia, Jasmine with French Ruscus
Huge Congratulations to Kevin and Hazel from all of the team here at Flower Design Events

The celebrations moved on to the fabulous surroundings of Mitton Hall where the scene was set for a wonderful party

Our magnificent gold Byzantine Candelabras dressed some of the tables, we'd decorated them with a plethora of fresh blooms including Sweet Avalanche & Black Baccara Roses, Orchids with Ranunculus, Red Hydrangeas, Roses and Black Pearl Germinis
Our Gold Hurricane Lanterns were surrounded by a wreath of Roses, Calla Lilies, Ranunuculus, Orchids, Hellebores, Germinis, Hydrageas, Lissianthus, foliages and Berries
The Top Table was looking luscious with a central candlelit design featuring all of the bridal flowers and the pew end posies and tea lights extending the design to fill the table

Our Enchanted Tree seating Plan was at the entrance to the room and looked fabulous
The tables were all named after Beatle songs
