Royal Outfit of the Day: August 7

The Spanish royal family posed for the press at the start of their summer holidays at Marivent Palace in Palma de Mallorca.
I would hide behind the girls too, if I forgot to change out of my pajamas before a photocall. Smart move, Letizia.
Leti's drawstring trousers from Hugo Boss. I was dicey on these when they appeared in a fancier fashion, but paired with a simple v-neck tee...nope. Well, not for press business, at least.

Royal Family Gathering of the Day: June 13

Video: The Danish royal family gathered at their French residence Château de Cayx to celebrate Prince Henrik's 80th birthday.
My favorite dress on Mary? Nah. Mostly because I am generally opposed to wimpy belting. Not a bad number for lounging around one's château, though.
The maxi dress is from Ilse Jacobsen, available in a variety of colors
It did give the whole family picture a bit of needed color, so credit for that.

We also must mention that there's a new portrait of Prince Henrik out in honor of his 80th. By photographer Jacob Jørgensen, the photo art depicts Henrik riding a unicorn. OH YES. See it, plus an article on the intentions behind it (basically, Henrik has a good sense of humor and a great love for art, and the idea comes from one of his own artworks) at Royalista (link). Not only does this totally capture the spirit of Henrik (and is really well done), but frankly I'd be more interested in royal portraiture on the whole if more mythical creatures were involved. Where's my picture of QEII fighting a dragon, artists of the world? Hmm?

Royal Outfit(s) of the Day: February 25

Video: The Dutch royal family posed for the media last week during their annual Lech ski trip.
This is a bit old by now, but whatever - let's have some warm fuzzies from the Dutch royal family for our Tuesday. Here's what I love about this: usually the royal kids are the ones wrangled into matching outfits, but not this time!

Well played, grown ups.

Various royals have been attending the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, including the Princess Royal, who is an IOC member.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have been making the Olympic rounds, even managing to be correctly identified on American television (which is saying something - although according to the speed skating broadcast I caught yesterday, that was their third day in a row at the event, so they had to get it right at some point), Princess Charlene was there looking chic with Prince Albert, and other royals have made the rounds too, but Anne is definitely my fave so far. Is there any better representation of the Games in Russia than that hat? Or her overly ecstatic reaction to the opening ceremony?

I think not.

Prince Hubertus of Hohenlohe-Langenburg will represent Mexico in alpine skiing at the Sochi Olympics, wearing...this:
Have you seen this? Hubertus von Hohenlohe has been dubbed the world's most interesting Olympian, and you need look no further than this to see why. He's a guy with a German title that was born in Mexico and uses that citizenship for competitive alpine skiing. He's a businessman, a photographer, a pop singer - and apparently, a guy that doesn't mind a little extra Olympic attention, because he's chosen to compete in this fetching mariachi-themed ski suit. (Not the only flamboyant choice in his uniform history, either.) This might just be our only chance to discuss a prince in a mariachi-themed ski suit. (MIGHT be.) Also, if this doesn't say Friday! then I don't know what does, so here you go.

Crown Princess Mary visited Myanmar for three days in connection to her work for the United Nations Population Fund and the Danish Refugee Council. Above, an outfit from the first day with floral trousers from Zara.
I found this the most interesting of Mary's outfits on this trip. These floral crops have a serious potential to go wrong, but she paired them well with a plain top for a casual look - they even seem perfect with the bare feet (everyone was shoeless at this event, by custom). A lower cost option from Zara (per Styleofmary) is an excellent choice as well, for a visit that's not about the high end fashion. Well played, I say.
