Royal Style Twins of the Day: May 22

Royal Style Twins of the Day: May 22

Okay, so here's what I think happened:
Queen Máxima and Queen Mathilde took one look at what was going on with the sculpture exhibition they were opening in The Hague this week...
...and their mission was clear: TIME TO SEUSS IT UP. And did they succeed? Yes they did indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)
I think we can guess which of these brains decided they should be rhyming technicolor cartoons for the day. Sporting a millinery party platter of Seussical costume trimmings, Máxima was outfitted in a coral-y orange Natan coat dress with extra volume in the skirt and sleeves and coral pendant earrings. Obviously keen to live up to their Natan Twins moniker, Mathilde also sported the Belgian brand in an orange and blue print belted frock with a Fabienne Delvigne blue turban and pearl earrings.
I'm telling you, I LOVE this appearance and every bit of ridiculous contained within. Seriously! They made me laugh, they made themselves laugh, and - here's the important part - they did their best to be highly visible for all the onlookers hoping to catch the double queen show at an outdoor engagement. That's a job well done. They can bathe themselves in beige another day.

And in case you have any doubt that this was a plan and not a coincidence, note that Mathilde made an outfit switch just for her jaunt with Máx.
Earlier that day, she was sporting the same hat but with a repeated blue floral Dries Van Noten dress for a pit stop at the residence of the Belgian ambassador in The Hague. Definitely a color scheme designed for an easy flip into twin mode. Also, this:

Classic. Oh, you two.

And for today's installment of things random royals have worn recently...

Queen Máxima has been on a trip to Myanmar as part of her role as a U.N. advocate for inclusive finance, and she wore something a little familiar...the brown and blue version of the pink Dolce & Gabbana dress we've seen on Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Marie-Chantal! Give me the light pink any day, though.

Queen Mathilde attended an exhibit featuring Dries van Noten's work, so she wore a Dries van Noten outfit. Anything else would have been just rude, you see. (Queen Robocop's knee is on the mend, but she uses a wheelchair when lots of walking/standing are required.)
I liked the floral print underneath, but possibly the most interesting part of this outfit was the mix of patterns with the coordinating striped jacket. She also put in an appearance in another of her sheath dresses, which she does (and should) own in a million variations because they're just right for her.

Also riding the royal blue train lately was Sofia Hellqvist:
I like this. I think I like this? Yes, I like this. A slouchy casual air, but still some sparkle. I grow ever more excited to see what she picks for the big day ahead.

It's been a while since we checked in with the current goings on of the Belgian royal family, so let's make up for that right quick.
Yesterday, Queen Mathilde participated in the Fight Against Cancer bike ride.
Yeah, we definitely need to keep up to date on our printed trouser happenings. In true Mathilde style, the color of the print matches the color of her top, though the print makes it hard to tell. She paired the outfit with flats, since she was going to do some bike riding herself. Click here for a gallery.

Mathilde's had several other engagements lately, but this one caught my eye more than the rest:
Mathilde visited an art exhibition earlier this week.
Yes, apparently it is Floral Print Week here on the blog, and I'm liking this Dries van Noten floral too.

The rest of the family has news of their own...
Princes Nicolas and Aymeric, twin sons of Prince Laurent and Princess Claire, had their first communion. Looking very smart indeed, the two gentlemen arrived with their mother, who was lovely in vibrant green. The event drew several other royals, so click here for a big gallery or here for a video.

And finally, the palace confirmed the date for another royal wedding: the King's nephew Prince Amedeo, son of Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, will marry Elisabetta Maria Rosboch von Wolkenstein on July 5th in Rome. Their engagement was officially announced back in February.
