Royal Outfit of the Day: October 13

Royal Outfit of the Day: October 13

This weekend marked another milestone for Felipe VI's reign in Spain: his first National Day as king.
For the parade, Felipe was decked out in uniform, their daughters were dressed in Nanos, and Letizia stuck to her favorite designer, Felipe Varela. The dress has the look of a standard, one of those tweedy/bouclé numbers you might get from vintage Chanel, but Letizia - as always - puts her own twist on the story with a closely tailored fit and a shaped neckline.
The story took an unexpected turn at the back: a different fabric! Which has the unfortunate effect of appearing that they accidentally ran out of the good stuff. I was with her until that plot twist, and now I think I have to crown Felipe the best dressed of the day (if you're going to change out of your uniform for the reception, might as well make it some natty pinstripes, right?).

Royal Headbands of the Day: May 12

Crown Princess Mary traveled to Norway on Friday, where she joined Crown Princess Mette-Marit to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Heligoland.
This is that outfit that I liked before on Mary, but I liked it better without the hat, but I still prefer Mary's hat to M-M's "hat", which is not a hat but a headband with some stuff on it, if you see what I mean. Anyway: M&M-M's DAY OUT! It's like a Girls' Night Out, but with more pantyhose. (And yes, Mette-Marit is wearing the By Ti Mo dress we saw before, just in a different color. She must have liked it just as much as I did.)

In other fancy headband news...
Also last week, Princess Letizia held audiences at Zarzuela Palace, wearing a Hugo Boss skirt and a headband from children's brand Nanos with stars on the side.
What's this? My stars (see what I did there), what do we have here?! Well, well, well. Is Letizia having a little fun with her outfit for a change, or are her daughters dressing her now? You know what, I think I'm good with either answer.

Royal Outfit(s) of the Day: April 22

The Spanish royal family, celebrating Easter.
For those familiar with the way the Spanish royals mark Easter, this is nothing new. Apart from being one of the occasions during the year when we get to see Leonor and Sofia it remains, sartorially speaking, an everyday occasion. I like Letizia's outfit here, actually; I do like her take on cropped trousers and heels, though I think the skinny belt on the jacket shown on the mannequin might have helped. Anyway, the average-ness of the thing makes Queen Sofia's egg necklace, an Easter standard, an automatic standout. Maybe I'll whip up one with chocolate eggs for myself next year. Never know when you'll need a snack.
