December Wedding at Stewarts Bay Lodge

Photography by Michelle Dupont
December 2016 I provided flowers for a special wedding at Stewarts Bay Lodge on the Tasman Peninsula.  Stewarts Bay Lodge is next to the Port Arthur Historic Site, so many couples choose to have photographs taken in the beautiful gardens that are part of the site.

The bride asked for reds, whites, pinks and greens in her bouquet, and loved lots of cascading foliage.  December 2016 was mild and the summer weather hadn't fully arrived so there were many Tasmanian waratahs still blooming.  They are such a treat to use in a bouquet with their intense red colouring.

For cascading foliage, I used Agonis Flexuosa which is in flower over the summer, with little white star-like flowers along the stems.  This native foliage plant has a lovely weeping habit which means it falls beautifully.   I also used foliage from a sweet smelling Incense Cedar.

Along with the Tasmanian Waratah, I used Scarlet Ribbon Leucospermums, Protea Compacta, and Protea Repens.  Some red and intense pink Callistemons or Bottlebrush flowers were also added.  Dark burgundy Leucadendron Safari Sunset provided contrast.

For whites, I added Button Bush or Berzelia, with its fluffy white balls of flowers.  Berzelia is a late winter and spring texture plant which flowers in early summer and is usually finished by December.  I also added some white Hebe flowers.

For the two bridesmaids, I left out the Berzelia.  The purple flowers are Isopogon Formosa, also called Cone Flowers.  They are such a gorgeous colour.   Who said natives were brown and boring?!  Isopogons are a spring flowering plant and because of the mild weather in December 2016, they were still flowering for me to use.

The richness of the colours was really special.  I loved the hot pink Callistemons with their tiny little yellow-green highlights at intervals along the flower.  Even the buds added beauty and texture.
The wedding photography by Michelle Dupont was amazing.  Its always such a treat to see her work!

For the groom, there was more of the beautiful Berzelia.

Agonis foliage and flowers, gum, Berzelia, Blushing Bride, and some Leucadendron cones from the Jubilee Crown variety.

I also made some floral crowns for some of the little girls at the wedding - always so cute!  More of the fragrant cedar foliage, Agonis flowers and Berzelia.

Table decorations for the reception at Stewarts Bay Lodge were more colourful.  I added peach coloured Fountain Leucospermums.

I loved the riot of colour and texture in these centrepieces.  The reds, pinks, orange and purple!

The little pots of colour sat on log rounds on each table.

Joyful bursts of colour!

Such a beautiful bride!  It was a pleasure to be able to provide flowers for this wedding.

February Wedding at Stewarts Bay Lodge

"I love all foliages"  said the bride.  Great for a wedding at Stewarts Bay Lodge, set in the bush right next to Stewarts Bay on the Tasman Peninsula, a gorgeous natural setting!

The lovely bride was after pinks and softer tones to compliment the "nude" colouring of the bridesmaids dresses.  Protea Compacta, Protea White Ice and Protea Pink Ice were the main flowers used.  Secondary flowers were Banksia Marginata, a local native in soft creamy lemon, Brunia Albiflora and some rich pink Corymbia Ficifolia or Flowering Gum.  More difficult to see is Leucadendron Pisa with its silvery cones, Poppy pods, and some soft pink wax flower.

Foliages used include Myrtle Beech, a native Tasmanian foliage, 2 different types of Eucalyptus, one in bud.  Native, locally growing coral fern is also used.  Beautiful Leucadendron Silver Tree foliage is also used, giving shiny highlights.  There is also some Eucalyptus Crenulata, a blue foliage with a slight purple tinge to the tips.

Big cascading bouquets full of foliage can be tricky to package for transport!

The colours worked well with the bridesmaids dresses.

I love candid wedding shots! They really show the emotion of the day.

For the boutonnieres I used the native coral fern, wax flowers, some deconstructed Brunia and for the groom, some of the pink flowering gum.

The boutonniere for the Father of the Bride was slightly different using a poppy pod, myrtle, gum and flowering gum.

The floral comb for the bride used similar ingredients - native coral fern, wax flower, flowering gum, deconstructed bruina, Eucalyptus Crenulata, and some eucalyptus buds.

Wax flower is such a popular filler flower and you can see why in this hair piece.  It is so delicate but it also lasts well.

I love making hair pieces and its always wonderful to be able to see how they're used.

This one sat so well into the hairstyle.

The combination of a great hair stylist  (Ben O'Brien) and a great photographer (Island 26 Photography) gives great results!  Its such a privilege to work with talented people.  The beautiful bride looked amazing!

Simple aisle decorations were the only ceremony flowers - a simple mix of foliages and leucadendrons.

Table decorations included rustic log rounds with a trio of vases filled with proteas, foliage and flowering gum.

Twisted willow gave the centrepieces a lift.

Its always a pleasure to be involved in a couple's big day, especially when there are so many other great providers to work alongside.  This beautiful shot of the lovely bride just goes to show the results that can be achieved when you have great people to work with.

Red and Gold Summer Natives for a December Wedding

Photography by Rosie Hastie
An intimate wedding in December at Stewarts Bay Lodge on the Tasman Peninsula called for red and gold, and seasonal natives.   "I just want something colourful and simple to hold", said the bride.

Banksia Coccinea were my inspiration for the "red".  For the "gold",  I used Dryandra Formosa.  I teamed it with some Leucospermum Scarlet Ribbons, fully flowering with their rich red ribbons exposed, and Protea Compacta in pink with a rich red centre.  I also used some rich orange Banksia Ericifolia.

Such beautiful photos by Tasmanian Photographer Rosie Hastie!  I love the glow of the red Banksia against that gorgeous wedding dress!

Other flowers I used were Leucadendron Safari Sunset which are deep maroon in summer, before they start their growth phase.  I also used some Leucadendron Jubilee Crown with their ruby cones.   Some grevilea foliage, and gum foliage gave some texture.  I also added some smoke bush foliage with some of the wispy feathery red flowers.  Such vibrant warm summer colours!

For the groom, who was wearing a burgundy red and gold tie, I used myrtle and grevillea foliage, Leucadendron Safari Sunset, Leucadendron Jubilee Crown, and for the gold, the Dryandra Formosa.

Aisle decorations for the ceremony were hung and then brought inside for the reception.

Leucospermum Scarlet Ribbons, Kangaroo Paw in burnt orange, Leucadendrons Safari Sunset, Pisa and Jubilee Crown, and Agonis Flexuosa foliage,  all combined to create a vibrant splash of colour for both outside and inside.

I think it was a great idea that worked really well to provide decoration for both the ceremony and reception whilst keeping costs down.

A simple arch framed the spot for the ceremony.

The red and gold theme really added an intense splash of colour.

The cake topper used a Banksia Coccinea too, with some Leucadendron Safari Sunset and Dryandra again.  I think it was a beautiful fresh look for a small, intimate wedding.

The bride's bouquet was paired with a little bouquet for the flower girl, using the same combination of flowers on a smaller scale.

So sweet!

I really enjoyed creating the flowers for this gorgeous wedding, so it was lovely to see some photos of the day.  A good photographer just captures the details so brilliantly!

I love this shot of the bride and groom with Tasman Island in the background.  The gorgeous blue of the sea and sky really make the flower colours sing!
