Roses

Long considered a symbol of beauty and love, roses figure into many myths and fairy tales. Romantic writers and poets have used the flower as a metaphor for emotion, beauty, passion and true love. An all-star in the world of weddings, the rose is far from boring, particularly when it comes to color—roses are available in solid hues and bicolor varieties—there are even striped and tipped roses as well.

More than 3,000 varieties of roses are grown commercially, and many are available year-round and are surprisingly affordable. And though roses are associated with luxurious fragrance, not every rose is scented. Three main types of roses are most popular for wedding flowers: hybrid tea roses (the classic, uniformly shaped commercial roses generally seen at your local florist), spray roses (a rose with five to ten small heads on each stem and a "natural, garden-grown" look) and garden roses (expensive, old-fashioned varieties with bushy, open heads and delicious scents).

Burgundy bridal party flowers

This was a fabulous wedding from last November, the bride met me at one off the wedding fayres I exhibited at earlier in the year. She was quite specific on all aspects of the day, from colour, flowers used and style and hopefully we got there with these lovely displays.

The bride's bouquet was an overarm hand tie design, quite heavy with the flowers used but looked lovely when held. The flat bouquet doesn't necessarily do it justice.
Included were cymbidium orchids, lilies, calla lily, roses, thistle, dahlia and gunnii eucalyptus.

The roses had diamante pins to add a little sparkle.

The bridesmaid bouquets were of roses, calla lily, thistles and dahlia with eucalyptus.

All bouquets were tied together with a large silver bow.

The two flower girls carried a single rose with a diamante pin and ribbon covering the whole stem and a bow with trails for decoration.

The buttonholes were kept really simple, with a dahlia flower and couple of sprigs of eucalyptus.

The brides flowers all ready for presentation at the venue.
We always present the flowers to the bride that way we know we have got the designs right for her vision.

If you love these colours or style and would like to discuss how we can recreate this to suit your day then get in touch to book a consultation with me either here at the studio, at your venue or somewhere else convenient to suit you.

Fish bowls at Hirst Priory

The reception of Monday's blogpost wedding bouquets (here) at the lovely Hirst Priory
The bride already had the fish bowls and mirrors (although you can hire these from us) and provided the sand for the bases.
We were asked to provide 3 ivory roses to float in water with bear grass swirls around the bowl.

Hirst Priory table settings, still a few more details to be added.

The ceremony table was provided by the venue through us as we were bringing the table flowers. Hazel, the wedding planner, knows this is the best way for all designs to match up style and colour wise.

Ivory roses, green carnations, stallion chyrsants and gyp with mixed foliage.

If you are getting married at Hirst Priory and are looking for a florist, whether for simple designs like these or for larger, fuller designs we will be happy to talk through your plans. Please book a consultation today and start your flower journey with us.

Blush and Ivory rose wedding

Alice had a really good idea of what she wanted for her bouquet and looking through my designs she saw something similar. A teardrop bouquet of roses. We adapted it slightly with Quicksand and Avalanche roses with added sprigs of gyp and ivy for foliage.

Quicksand roses are a gorgeous blush come Mother of Pearl type colour.

The bridesmaids both carried a simple bouquet of gyp.

Hessian was bound around the stems to go with the country wedding style.

Groomsmen wore a single ivory rose with sprigs of gyp and ivy leaves.

Alice had decorated most of the inside of her marquee reception with artificial flowers but her mum wanted to surprise her with a fresh flower archway for the entrance.

This was covered with locally sourced foliage including ivy and decorated with Quicksand and Ivory roses and gyp bunches.

The top had a lovely organza bow

The reception marquee was in the grounds of the wonderful Hackthorn Hall, a place I had not been to before but the village has family connections so it was lovely to see even on such a gray day.

I was also asked to provide a couple of thank you bouquets to give during the speeches in wedding colours.

If you are looking for a venue to hold your marquee reception then do have a look at Hackthorn Hall. They have just launched a new website and contact details.

If you like any of these designs and would like them to discuss how they would work for your wedding please contact us to book a consultation.

Are you looking for an archway? We have two styles the above metal arch or a rustic pole square frame. Both can be rented and covered in a variety of ways to suit your budget. Please ask us for more details.

~ Roses are Red ~

Hey,

This isn't one of my usual posts but I would like to change things up and add more lifestyle posts to my blog, instead of just beauty. I think roses are the most beautiful flowers and I received 18 from my boyfriend on valentines day! So...I took a few snaps with them and liked the outcome - it was really fun editing them too. These edits looked really cool and I wanted to share them with my viewers ;-)

Thanks for reading and I hope you liked this little change in post. Promise to be back with more beauty stuff this week!

Love
