Wedding day nerves and how to beat them

Wedding day nerves and how to beat them

Wedding day nerves. It’s the same feeling as sitting your driving test, or taking your first sit-down exam.
We can assure you that as soon as you see your betrothed at the end of the aisle, those nerves will disappear, but how do you cope with them in the meantime? Well, to give you some top tips on calming those wedding day nerves in the lead-up to and on the big day itself, we have enlisted the help of Eleanor Copp, one of the UK’s leading lights in dealing with anxiety in all walks of life, as well as being a hypnotherapist and eminent midwife.

Identify your list of chief concerns
Make a list, get some hierarchy and perspective going. Identify your big worries, know the smaller ones and accept them.

Surround yourself with positive people
Anyone that has an agenda about your wedding should not even be in your vicinity. If there are certain friends or family members that are causing problems, do not engage with them.

Talk about your anxieties
Any doubts about anything will fester so articulate them to your nearest and dearest, don’t get distracted but do tackle what you need to tackle them. Confronting them and taking action will instantly reduce stress levels.

Focus on your breathing
If you start feeling anxious, focus on your breath, and in particular, your diaphragm. And become calm – yoga is a brilliant way to learn body awareness, build stamina to stress and remain flexible, emotionally and physically. Take it up!  Spending five minutes each day focusing only on your breath is a fantastic strategy for dealing with worry.

Look ahead with positivity
Start visioning a wonderful day ahead of you, with people who want to share it with you… This is the gift of a wedding.

Allow yourself to be supported
This wedding is not solely your responsibility, you can delegate tasks to chosen trusted friends, you do not have to be the one holding it all together alone.

Think of your posture
If you think you’re getting overwhelmed you will look at the floor more, give and receive eye contact less and your voice will become more high pitched. If you haven’t realised yet you are stressed, those around will have done. Acupuncture is a brilliant way to counteract the manifestations of tension and finding a good practitioner will pay dividends.

Allow yourself to be pampered
Let go and relax. Have fun in the run up, lighten up, see the funny side to any conflict.

Rehearse the day in your mind
Mentally walk through what will happen on the day, from beginning to end. If there are parts you are worried about (these are usually the aisle walk, the vows and the speeches) focus on your role in that only – you can’t control what anyone else does or says.

Be positive
Smile, be happy and enjoy your wedding day. It’s going to be amazing!

Engagement Photo Shoot Tips

Engagement Photo Shoot Tips

Getting engaged is a wonderfully exciting time, which also includes getting fun and romantic photos of the two of you. Here are some great tips to consider for your engagement photo shoot:
Location
Think about your location, it is lovely to go somewhere that is meaningful to you as a couple but also has a variety of backdrops to make things more exciting and give you real variety in the images. Cityscapes, villages, fields, beaches, farms, lakes, rivers all make fabulous backdrops so think of somewhere unique to you!
It is a good idea also to think seasonally, if your shoot is in the autumn why not take advantage of the amazing red and orange trees, winter could you do your shoot in the snow, spring in the daffodils or rape seed fields or, in the summer, the lavender fields or beach?
Activities
Activities are fabulous in engagement shoots, they give you something fun and natural to do while making the shoot individual and interesting.
You could hire a rowing boat on a local lake, or you could visit an antique market, hire a tandem bike, or how about a picnic or trip strawberry picking?
Fruit fields look fabulous and strawberry picking is a great activity that is fun and looks very cute in the images. Take a picnic to the woods or beach for some really romantic shots.
Hobbies & Pets
Incorporating hobbies is another way to make your shoot personal to you as a couple.
If you have a pet this is something we could incorporate too they are after all part of your little family. Bringing your dog along will be sure to make it a fun experience!
Hair & Make Up
You really want look and feel your very best on your engagement shoot.
If you are a bit of a makeup / hair novice why not arrange to have them done professionally.
If you’re doing your hair and make up yourself take a little extra time, perhaps buy some new items to make you feel great and remember to wear a little more makeup than usual while still keeping it fairly natural as makeup doesn’t show up as much on the photos.
Clothing
Choose colors that go together and keep the same color palette as this will unify you together in the shots.
Think about where we are shooting and choose appropriate clothes ie: if we are in the fields in winter wellies hats and scarves or on the beach in summer think sun dress and flip flops.
Think classic, no big motifs or wording on your clothes and nothing too fashionable as this will date your images quickly.
If we are going to an appropriate location why not dress up a bit, a dress and heels looks fabulous or jeans, a shirt and suit jacket for the guys you will feel amazing and in turn look amazing.
Props
Think about the kind of props that might go with the shoot you have chosen.
If you are going strawberry picking bring a pretty basket, a woodland winter walk maybe a knitted blanket to hang round your shoulders and a flask of hot chocolate, even a bunch of flowers looks great as it looks like you are on a ‘date’.
If you do decide to bring props make them stylish, sandwiches in a carrier bag do not a picnic make!

Benefits & Disadvantages of Spring Weddings

Benefits & Disadvantages of Spring Weddings

A spring wedding is not only symbolically beautiful, with the changing and blossoming landscape it acts as a perfect background to your wedding. The trees, no longer subdued, will blossom into life, just like any spring bride. Furthermore, sites of national heritage begin to open their doors during this season, enabling you to book your wedding at a beautiful castle and landscape for a lower price than a summer bride.

With spring weddings, there are some problems that you may come across. One issue is rain. Down pours are more often in spring, giving you a higher chance of rain. However, if you plan ahead by hiring or marquee or organizing the service and party mainly inside (with open doors), you can avoid you and your guests getting soaked.

Also consider holidays that might interfere with the wedding. Holidays, such as St. Patrick's day may interfere with your ability to book venues, especially in Ireland. Check out with your church or venue about dates that might interfere with the wedding before you book. Holidays can also be a savoir, as for many it gives them extra time off for traveling if needs be. It is also good for teachers who may not be able to get the time off. On the other hand, venues and accommodation will need to be booked earlier as many people have this same idea!

If you want to avoid the rain, opting for a wedding in late spring/early summer might be a better choice for you. The hours of sunlight are also longer, enabling you to set your wedding for a later time or organizing an evening outdoor party on the grounds. The only real problem is that over a quarter of brides choose this time of year, making it harder to book venues, entertainment, florists etc.
