Royal Duo of the Day: April 30

Royal Duo of the Day: April 30

Queen Letizia and Queen Sofia teamed up for the Reina Sofia Awards yesterday.
So this is basically a handy little summary of all relevant aesthetic differences between current and former queenly generations in Spain, in a single appearance. Two light suits for spring, done in two very different ways.
One floral suit with extra ruffles, extra jewelry, extra flowers, extra extra, and one solid suit with only a tiny touch of texture, a touch of accessories, even just a touch of color overall. One hairstyle that hasn't changed in hoooooow long? and one freshly chopped. Not a case of one being better than the other, but a case of happy contrasts.

By the way, Letizia did show us that she still has plenty of available hair styling mileage with her new 'do:
This was at the Cervantes Prize last week after the big cut, all coiffed up and ready to go. I like it!

CHOP!
Queen Letizia attended the 'Woman Awards' last night in Madrid.
Look who got her hair did...
She tested out the faux bob (yes, that's bob with ONE o, stop giggling) hairstyle a time or two, and now she's really gone for it. I like to think she made a point of holding on to those long locks juuuuussst long enough to debut her new tiara in the best possible fashion before making the cut. (More on that tiara coming up later in the week, by the way!)
Her newly short and sassy bob was paired with Yanes earrings, Prada shoes, and another Felipe Varela LBD (she really takes that theory that you can never go wrong with a little black dress to heart, you know). I think I like the new 'do - she certainly seems to like it, at least. I do believe I'm detecting some swagger here. And I love a queen with swagger.

Royal Outfit Grab Bag of the Day: April 15

Look!
Queen Letizia attended the 2nd Congress of Rare Childhood Diseases yesterday.
See, I haven't forgotten that people exist outside of Denmark.
She also visited the Artillery Military Academy this week.
I'm just holding on because the promise of a big royal gathering is a lot more interesting than some of the other stuff that's been going on, see. This Hugo Boss red coat is the highlight of Letizia's recent outings, all of which have been perfectly fine but not much else.

Sofia Hellqvist, Queen Silvia, King Carl Gustaf, and Crown Princess Victoria attended the Global Child Forum Partners' Day.
Over in Sweden, I spy one of my favorite current Victoria outfits, a rainbow-licious Preen dress, but it's all covered up. So the most notable thing here is simply that this is Sofia's first royal event without Prince Carl Philip at her side.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima attended the Koningsdag Concert yesterday.
And here's Máxima in a lovely blue houndstooth dress from Michael Kors, but yet again, the clothes aren't the highlight. Watch the video. Could Willem-Alexander be any cuter here? He could not, I tell you.

We'll be back later with an open post for those that want to chat about the Danish festivities, so stay tuned!

Royal Fashion Awards: Easter 2015

Royal Fashion Awards: Easter 2015

Easter has delivered many goodies for us: 1) chocolate, if you're doing it right, and 2) some fashion awards fun for our Monday. The royal families of Britain and Spain were out and about for Easter services, and we have sartorial matters to discuss...

Best in Queens, Part 1
Queen Sofia
Here are the Spains, doing their thing, business as usual. So I always end up giving the recognition to Queen Sofia, who reliably wears her Easter egg necklace for the occasion. And so it shall be yet again!
It's kitschy and also possibly something of great value (Fabergé does make pendants like these, I don't know if that's the precise make of her pendants - and good grief, she has an awful lot of them), which is sort of the best possible combination.

Best in Queens, Part 2
Queen Elizabeth II
And here's QEII, also doing her thing, also business as usual. She departed from her usual favorite brooches, though, so she gets her own best category for that. (It's the Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch, one of the early members of her collection, and you can read about that the Jewel Vault.)

Best of the Best
The Princess Royal
Is Anne truly the best dressed of the day, or is this just a knee jerk reaction caused by seeing her in something that appears to have been made in the current century? Discuss.

Best of the Rest
The Countess of Wessex, Autumn Phillips, Princess Beatrice
I'm also loving: Autumn's cape thing and floral skirt, Beatrice's whole silhouette, and Sophie's swing coat. All the things minus the dead animal on Sophie's head.

Best in Suits
The Gentlemen
The men were there. They wore suits. (Also: Heeeyyy Lady Sarah Chatto, lurking back there in gray and black.)

Who made your Easter best dressed list?
